A trail over Cascade Pass once served as an Indian trade route connecting the east and west sides of the Cascade Mountains. In the 1890's, plans were drawn up to build a road over the pass. Fortunately, the money ran out before it came to fruition. In 1968, this beautiful area was protected as part of North Cascades National Park. No hunting is permitted within the park, and for most part, wild animals go about their business with people nearby. It's an exceptional treat in the Cascade Mountains where much of the wildlife seems skittish.
